Role in Procurement Services

I manage the travel and hospitality categories for Procurement Services which covers everything from reviewing and signing hotel contracts, catering contracts, travel abroad, half-time show entertainment contracts, conference registration fees, and everything in between. It is varied and different every day! I love it!

Educational Background and Employment History

I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Leisure Studies. Yes, this was a real degree at one time. It led me to a 20 plus year career in hotel and catering sales in Des Moines. I joined Iowa State in 2010 working for Iowa State Dining at the MU overseeing the catering events booked there. I transferred to Hawthorn Market Café Grill as the assistant manager which led me across the street to Procurement Services.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy gardening and learning about it from watching Gardener’s World on Brit Box. Of course, spending time with family and friends but mostly playing and loving our two grandsons who are 5 and 3 years old. I enjoy rediscovering the world through their innocent and curious eyes.

Role in Procurement Services

I am a procurement agent who specializes in services for the university such as marketing, grant writing and legal services. There are many more that fall under my umbrella, being here only 4 months, I’m discovering new ones every day. In my current role, I procure services for the University, which is much different than buying goods.

Educational Background and Employment History

Growing up a Hawkeye, I never thought I would attend Iowa State University but life had other plans. I graduated from Iowa State with a degree in Public Relations/ Communications. Prior to joining the Procurement Services team, I worked as senior apparel buyer for Sigler for 9 years and a stay-at-home mom (best job ever!) for 5 years. I started with Iowa State in January of 2018 where I was the apparel buyer for the Iowa State Bookstore for 2.5 years and then worked for the College of Engineering in their Student Services department.

What do you like to do outside of work?

When I’m not at work you can find me on the bleachers at our son’s sporting events; football, basketball and baseball. We’re also a Cyclone family who has season tickets to football and gymnastics and attend as many men’s and women’s basketball games as we can. Outside of sports, I am the “Monica” of organization. I get great satisfaction in organizing closets, cupboards, drawers, etc. I will even reorganize the dirty dishes in the dishwasher for optimal efficiency. And I LOVE music, especially live music. I have been to concerts all over the US in venues of all sizes. My goal is to go to a show at Red Rocks this summer.
