Role in Procurement Services

As a part of the team of procurement agents who handle the scientific commodities, I assist faculty and staff in purchasing scientific equipment, supplies, and services they need for research and teaching. Some of the specific types of procurements I currently deal with are high-dollar research and analytical equipment that are required to go through the formal bidding process, research animals, contracts for industrial and research-grade compressed gases, and anything related to drones and aviation equipment.

Educational Background and Employment History

I have a Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State in Biology and spent about 7.5 years teaching high school Chemistry. My dream was to come back to Iowa State, and in 2007 I got a chance to manage the Chemistry Stores operation. After 10 enjoyable years with the Chemistry Department, I was able to leverage my experience to become a Procurement Agent and I have been here ever since. I look forward to continuing to grow my career in Procurement Services.

What do you like to do outside of work?

My husband and I live on a farm in Nevada and have 3 wonderful girls, ages 14, 12, and 7. Most of my time outside of work involves cheering them on in their volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, running, and 4H activities. When we do have some downtime, we love to follow the Cyclones and attend a few games, meets, and matches as often as possible.

Ella Schau

Role in Procurement Services

I am the cyBUY (eProcurement) Program Coordinator. In this role, I work closely with our contracted suppliers and software provider, ESM Solutions, to continually develop the platform and improve user experience as an advocate for the university shoppers.

Educational Background and Employment History

I received a bachelor’s degree in biological and pre-medical Illustration here at Iowa State and during my studies, I joined Procurement Services as a student worker in 2013. I have been specializing in eProcurement since 2016. Writing this, I can’t believe I’ve been with the department for nearly nine years now. Time flies!

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love spending time outside away from my computer, gardening, and traveling with my husband, Lucas, and my hound, Reno. I also enjoy knitting, cooking, painting, and working on a variety of DIY projects.
