Kelly Freel

Role in Procurement Services - Senior Contract Manager

I have been with ISU Procurement Services for nearly 17 years and currently serve as a Senior Contract Manager procuring large hospital (veterinary/human) equipment, lab equipment, hospital (veterinary/human) supplies, lab supplies, pharmaceuticals, radioactive isotopes, grant writing services, many PPE supplies, and also assist with equipment donations under $500,000.

Educational Background and Employment History

I hold a Bachelor’s of Science from the ISU College of Business, and a Certified Professional Procurement Buyer (CPPB).  Before Google maps existed, as a Product Manager I spent 10 years in the GIS industry digitizing for the U.S. Census Bureau and making thematic maps and reports, and 5 years in the IT industry as a Program Coordinator coordinating software product releases in R&D.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Things that make me happy outside of work are spending time with my friends and family.  My husband Gary, daughter Shaye and I enjoy riding motorcycles with our group of friends and have been on many long trips.  Yes, I ride my own—a 2019 Harley Davidson Road King.  I also enjoy outdoor activities near the water, a good backyard BBQ with a good beer, and have been told by extended family that I make some of the best kringla for having a German heritage.
