Help us welcome our two newest Procurement Agents, John and Jake!

Lawson

John Michel

Role in Procurement Services - Procurement Agent

I handle science purchases under $10,000, hospital veterinary equipment and supplies, lab equipment and supplies, as well as process FP&M purchasing needs.

Educational Background and Employment History

I served in the United States Army on active duty from 2003 to 2011. I graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain Management, then started as an Electronics Buyer for Innovative Lighting based in Roland, Iowa. In March 2015, I became a Purchasing Agent for ISU at FP&M where I made all materials, repair, and operations purchases. During that time I served as a Small Projects Coordinator handling all construction projects under $100,000.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love to spend time with my wife Danielle and kids Dominic (2 years) and Elaina (8 months). I like to play golf anytime the weather cooperates as well as watch baseball (Cubs), football (Packers, Cyclones), and hockey (Blackhawks) as much as possible.

Miller

Jake Miller

Role in Procurement Services - Procurement Agent

I am brand new to the procurement team and learning something new every minute. I am excited about my new role and being able to help faculty and staff meet the IT needs of students as well as their own departments. In a short amount of time, I have gained a great deal of respect for my coworkers’ abilities to adapt to a new way of getting work done and still be able to find a way to effectively help me learn and grow. I’ve met virtually no one face to face, yet virtually met dozens of people that I am looking forward to building great working relationships with!

Educational Background and Employment History

I moved to Ames when I decided to attend ISU and earn a degree in management.  While attending classes I found a job at Best Buy to help me fill my desire to tinker with all things electronic. A college job turned into a 15-year career at several different Best Buy stores in many roles. During that time I learned that I enjoy helping others get the most out of their technology and took great pride in delivering an excellent work experience for Best Buy team members. I hope to continue delivering a high level of service to anyone I assist here at ISU.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Currently, my wife Erin, and my daughter Kate, and I have been finding new ways to entertain ourselves at home.  Erin and I have been perfecting several different smoked meat recipes and have even gotten Kate to admit she doesn’t like ribs, she LOVES them. I would have to say our signature dish is a biscuit formed into a cup using a cupcake pan then filled with smoked shredded pork, onions, green peppers, cheese, and topped with barbeque sauce as the “frosting.”  We are also looking forward to all fall sports and watching them either in person or on a newly procured projector for the garage.  GO CLONES!
